Redstart

I love this plump little guy. He was fun to paint. I really need to work on foreshortening technique, he looks kind of silly, but I'm very pleased with his head. For some reason I have a terrible time with beaks, but this one worked out pretty well. Shhh, we won't mention that wing. So much to learn!

I needed to see this little guy this morning. Yesterday was a tough day followed by a flying squirrel night. I agree with you that the head turned out very well- both the beak and the eye are executed well. The most convincing part is how the bird's head seems to sit on/in the rest of his body. I have seen birds do that when they are relaxed. Yes, the foreshortening is a bugger- it is with whatever you paint (hand, chair, face, building). You will get there. Carolina

Imperfections are what makes it art and not a photograph. I love the widdle wing. And since I am all about a silly bird, I say give her a longer beak and see where that leads!
