The Hike

I have taken up Carolina's challenge to change my daily habits and began with a wondeful 2.6 mile hike around Killan's Pond.

I visited with the locals,

and enjoyed the lovely scenery

I also brought along a rock I had crocheted a cozie for the night before, and I was obsessed with the idea of photographing my rock on a nice bed of moss.  I will spare you the billions of photos I took and just show you a few favorites,

Here are some cool tree roots I saw

Yes, I actually took a few pictures without my rock.  In fact, I ended up leaving my darn rock somewhere and I had to backtrack to find it.  I thought about leaving it for someone else to find but I couldn't do it.  Maybe I will make more to leave as gifts but I just couldn't part with my first one.

I finished my time at the park painting on the terrace of the nature center.  I'm making color mix charts of all my watercolors.

I probably didn't make much progress in the exersize department but it was so much fun I can't wait to go again.  And hey, next time I won't have to stop to take 7000 photos of my rock.

You are the funniest person I know. I loved the picture of the crocheted rock near the water, it looks so peaceful. I do believe we are on the same wavelength. I was thinking of making a simple fairy house and tucking it in along one of the hiking paths up here in my neighborhood. That way others can discover it and I, too, get to enjoy it. I am telling you, Alicia, exercising out of doors is the way to go for me. No matter how achy I am the next day, I will put on my stuff and do it all over again, and it never feels like a chore. To do two and a half miles takes me an hour - on the road it takes less, but the hour just goes by without me EVER looking at my watch. I loved seeing the pictures of your walk, I loved reading your words, and I loved seeing your painting setup at the nature center. Still wishing you lived next door, Carolina

What great scenery for your hike! I had to laugh about the 7,000 rock photos and the inevitable retracing your steps to find it again. It's such a metaphor for life, isn't it? We put so much effort into getting things just right, capturing a moment, etc. and then we forget all about it as we move on to the next thing.

Enjoy the week!
