Spring Fever

I was smitten when I saw this little robin project on a magazine cover.  I knew I had to make it the instant I saw it, even though a purse is something I have never attempted before.  I have embroidered since I was a little kid, so that was a breeze, but I was nervous about sewing something that had to fit a frame.  The instructions were clear and well written with lots of pictures, so I was very happy and kept telling the family " Hey look at me, I'm SEWING!"  Then in the final stretch I ran into a little problem.  I had convinced myself  I had the right frame, but actually it should be gently arched and not U-shaped.  Since this is the only one available in my town, I made it work.  So here is my slightly lumpy but still charming coin purse.  I was told I need to iron (gasp), so maybe I will order the right frame and give sewing another go.  If you would like to make one yourself, this is the magazine

and it has lots of other great projects.  So as it says, "thread your needle" and don't forget to iron!

Ironing or not, I think it turned out charmingly! Improvisation is one of the most important skills a sewist/crafter/quilter/etc. can have in their tool box.

I think yours turned out better than the one in the magazine. The tummy part on theirs competes with rest of the bird. My eyes seem to get confused with the pattern on their fabric choice. I liked how yours turned out, I especially love that it is a bird - it says "Alicia" all over it. I don't get why you have to iron it. ??? It looks good to me. I also think the clasp part appears to be working fine, too. I know I have been MIA, I see you have been busy this spring. The baby sweater and the felt shoes turned out great. I think there is nothing better than a handmade baby sweater. Holding one makes me think of the the words : love, caring, motherhood, and precious. I don't know where you found the time to get all these projects done, but I am glad you did and that you posted them.

It just dawned on me .... The embroidered bird is the SAME as the bird on your header. Boy, I am slipping.
It is so foggy today on the mountain that getting down to the farmer's market in the valley is going to be a trick - I can't even see my car in the driveway. If all goes well, I will come home and post (shocker, I know). Fingers crossed.

Alicia, STOP whatever you are doing and go to Melissa's blog. You have to see the quilt she just posted. http://100billionstars.com/2012/04/crazy-beautiful/
